Rounding the Corner!

We are rapidly approaching the finish line! I announced the Ballot Box contest on July 4th. We've had seven rounds of voting to date. I was hoping to go ten rounds but I feel a knockout coming! That's ok! We still have time for two more!  The Box is filling nicely. I'd planned to have a blaster for the winner but we all know the sad state of retail product. Who'd have thought???

Round Seven was a slaughter. Challengers Purina/Sunoco and Quaker/Whitehall didn't gather the attention  previous contenders garnered. I left voting open for several days but only 16 took time to cast a ballot. Perhaps more interest would've rescued Candidate A?  The Whitehall Legends set was the focus of attention with 11 winning votes.  I misunderestimated the power of holograms.

Round 8 Voting is here. No booing from the audience. You must hold your applause or obnoxious commentary until the Ballot Box is awarded.

CANDIDATE A:  1987 DONRUSS The Rookies

The box is open but contains a sealed set of 56 cards. There is no Clemente puzzle included. Notable rookies in this set are Mark McGwire, Greg Maddux, Bo Jackson, Matt Williams and Rafael Palmeiro. Of all Greg's rookies, this is may be favorite. I have one in my collection. Do you?

CANDIDATE B: 1992 TRIPLE PLAY

One sealed box of 36 packs, 15 cards each plus a rub-off game card! Though marketed with the kiddies in mind, adults still love to rip these packs. Oh yes you do! You might pull a Gallery of Stars Bobby Bo, Griffey, Ripken or perhaps some Awesome Action! Who wouldn't like that?

This round is overwhelming. I know I'm exhausted! Take a moment to catch your breath, review the rules and vote!

  1. I will pick B. A triple play is not that common in baseball. Rookies are a dime a dozen.

    1. Well said, Fred! Most rookies are exactly that cheap. Greg and Mark do hold some value.

  5. This is a tough one! I'll go with A.

    1. Hello Shlabby! Life is busy. Not always enough time to do all those hobby things you enjoy. Missing the opportunity to vote however, won't look good when you run for congress! lol.

  7. Voting for B.

Maddux as a Cub and Steinbach as an Athletic
    Is definitely copacetic.
Voting against Fred McGriff and Devon White
    Doesn't seem right.

But sometimes I want to rip a pack or two or three
    Or thirty-six apparently.
Sometimes I prefer the Chicken and the Phanatic
To Mac and Palmy's steroid static.

All that being said, Andre Dawson's cracked bat is in Candidate B
The candidate of decency, the candidate that truly honors Julie.

  9. Two good sets. I like the '87 Donruss design. '87 was my first year collecting cards and we pay so much attention to the Topps set that we forget the Donruss was pretty good too. I'll go with A.

  13. I vote A. I don't have much love for 92 Triple Play.

  14. I vote for B. Who wouldn't want to rip a box of Donruss?

  15. Some foreign interference..
I think I have to go with A.
If only because Triple Play 1992 was a little bland.. Don't have any of the 1987 Rookies..

  16. Going with candidate A just because.

  17. The key card FOR ME in that Rookies set is David Cone, and I've got it, so B.

  18. I am voting for candidate B because I like the trivia questions on the back that you have to hold in front of a mirror to get the answer for,and also I love the Awesome Action Shots 3 photo cards in it as well:).

  19. Although I enjoy opening 36 packs of 15 cards each as much as the next citizen, it's got to be a product I like. And I just can't get into Triple Play. Going to choose the many fresh-faced young stars full of potential who are running on the Candidate A ticket.

    1. Forever young - which is what I love about older cards. Love your use of 'citizen'. That has to count for something! Perhaps in another contest where citizenship is in question. lol. Maybe we'll do that later on!

  20. Gonna vote A. 1993 Triple Play is great. 1992 and that red/yellow gradient not so much. Meanwhile 1987 hits me right in the feels with guys who were rookies when I was a rookie fan.

  21. I don't know if I'm technically voting or not, but I could never vote for 1992 Triple Play, I have too many bad memories of that set.

  22. Looking at the comments, it seems like Triple Play will win, but I still gotta give my vote to A.

  23. Those 1992 Triple Play cards are pretty great and I used to love the "Gallery of Stars" cards. I even have the Bobby Bo card in my collection, but the overwhelming amount of amazing rookie cards in the 1987 Donruss "The Rookies" set make that my pick. I vote for candidate A!
